New Year revelry in NorMin ‘relatively peaceful’

POLICE in Northern Mindanao said the four firecracker-related injuries recorded during the New Year revelry was the lowest in the region's history.

This as the Police Regional Office in Region 10 (PRO-10) declared the New Year celebration as "relatively peaceful."

Superintendent Surki Sereñas, PRO-10 spokesperson, said on January 1 there were two confirmed firecracker-related injuries and two other individuals with different injuries, whose cause have yet to be investigated.

The two injured victims brought to Northern Mindanao Medical Center sustained minor burns and were already out of danger, Sereñas said.

"The number of New Year revelry-related incident may, however, change due to delays in seeking medical help and late reporting," Sereñas said.

Meanwhile, a suspected stray bullet incident was reported in Iligan City. The victim Lenny Bado, 48, sustained a minor injury on her back and was brought to a local hospital.

Other provinces such as Camiguin, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental reported no incident related to the use of firecrackers, illegal discharge of firearms, or stray bullets.

Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb said they attributed "this remarkable record to the good people of Northern Mindanao who did not fire their firearms and were responsible merry-makers as we welcomed 2019."

"The entire holiday season was generally peaceful and this is something we should be proud of," Pacleb added.
