FLYING to the City of Nanning in China is not as convenient as traveling to the country’s capital Beijing as you will be taking three flights from Davao to reach the Green City of China. But the sacrifice of the eight-hour travel is worth it because of what the city could offer its visitors.

Located at the southern part of China near the border of Vietnam, Nanning is the capital city of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and its subtropical weather makes the city suitable for planting and maintaining flora.

Despite its seven million population, the city maintained a clean and orderly metropolis.

Known for its numerous parks, the city has big parks where its residents visit every morning for their Tai Chi, biking, walking, and other morning rituals. One garden with a thousand of square meters in land area was opened to the public just last December 2018.

Located at the Dingsishan area by the Bachi River in Yongning District of Nanning, more than an hour of bus ride from the city center, the 12th China International (Nanning) Garden Expo has six main theme exhibition gardens. The area also has a total of 81 sub gardens inside the expo area with three lakes and 18 mountains that resembles a dragon with two wings.

Within the 15,000 square-meter Asean Garden lies the Davao Park, neighbored by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, where city officials and performers delight expo visitors with cultural performance and a free giveaway ‘Davao Is Life’ shirt and bead bracelets.

When visiting the Garden expo, make sure to bring water, your phone or camera, umbrella or jacket, and a lot of leg energy if you choose to roam around the garden. Our group did not even fully explore the garden because it was too big to see everything for one day. Every garden is magnificent and you will surely spend a lot of time taking pictures. When visiting the expo, do not forget to learn basic Chinese.

Now would be the best time to visit because of the cold weather. The expo will run until May 2019.
