MisOr board thanks South Korean government

THE Provincial Board of Misamis Oriental is set to adopt a resolution thanking the South Korean government for its quick response and swift action on the garbage shipment at the Tagoloan town.

Board member Gerardo Sabal said he will sponsor a resolution once the 5,600 tons of hazardous waste materials are all shipped back to South Korea.

“We are happy with the action of the South Korean government by sending their officials to verify and clarify the issue on garbage,” Sabal said.

“I will sponsor a resolution thanking the South Korean government for its quick response and action. We will issue such after all waste materials are shipped out,” he added.

The re-exportation is scheduled on Wednesday, January 9, for the first 1,400 tons as these are still placed in 51 container vans. The South Korean government will shoulder the cost of more than P2 million.

The remaining 5,100 tons of trash which were already transferred to the Verde Soko's factory site will be delayed for about a month.

The re-exportation of the two shipments of waste materials was a result of the agreement reached by the Philippine and South Korean government after a two-day meeting and actual inspection last December 27 and 28.

“Dili kita mosugot nga mahimong labayanan sa basura ang atong probinsya (We will not allow our province to be a dumping ground for waste),” Sabal said.
