Tickets to be sold next week

THE Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) will start selling tickets for the Sinulog Grand Parade next week.

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said they scheduled the selling of parade tickets a week before the activity to prevent the proliferation of fake tickets.

While tickets are not being sold yet, Tumulak, who is the chairman of the executive committee of SFI, said they are already accepting ticket reservations.

“We will announce next week where they can buy the tickets. In previous years, the tickets were available on earlier dates. But for security reasons, we want to avoid the production of fake ones. That’s why the tickets are not yet available,” he said.

VIP tickets will be sold at P3,000 each, while the rest will be at P2,500, P1,500 and P1,000 each.

Unless there is a typhoon, the grand parade will push through.

“Rain or shine, the Sinulog will continue because we already experienced a rainy grand parade before. We already cleaned the parade and procession route to lessen the flooding,” he said.

The guest contingent from Wonju, South Korea will also push through with its performance.

Tumulak said Junhyung Ha, director of Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival, arrived on Thursday, Jan. 3, ahead of the group.

Tumulak said the group will join the street dancing and perform inside the Cebu City Sports Center during the grand parade on Jan. 20. They will also perform at the Fuente Osmeña on Jan. 19.

It will be the first time that an international contingent will join the parade as a guest performer.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Government will give P3 million in assistance to the Sinulog Foundation Inc.

Gov. Hilario Davide III said he received a letter from SFI, which asked for financial aid for its Sinulog activities this year. Davide said aiding SFI is not a problem, as it is included in the annual budget.

The Capitol has spent P600,000 for a float that will flaunt Cebu’s top tourist destinations during the parade while some employees will also be performing as a guest contingent. RVC / From AZLG of Superbalita Cebu / KAL
