THE City Government of Bacolod will hold another search for the cleanest, greenest, and most well-managed solid waste management (SWM) program this month.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of Solid Waste Action Team (Swat), said Friday, January 4, this will be the second year of the contest in preparation for the implementation of the “no segregation, no collection” policy.

The contest will be participated by the 61 barangays.

“We will focus on waste segregation because we are now constructing the sanitary landfill cell no. 2 in Barangay Felisa,” Familiaran said.

He said the barangays should start to practice and perfect the waste segregation to avoid violations.

“We have no choice and we need to do it because once the cell no. 2 will be completed, we will only collect segregated waste,” he added.

In November last year, Barangays 18 and Handumanan were the champion in the city’s Search for the Cleanest, Greenest, and Most Well-Managed SWM program.

Other winners were Barangays 13, 15, 17, 30, Montevista, Taculing, and Sum-ag.

The barangays were judged based on how they manage their solid waste program.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on environment and ecology, earlier said this is their way to encourage the barangays to implement the waste segregation program within their locality.

She said they will continue this program to sustain the clean and green program in various barangays. (MAP)
