THE Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) wants to increase penalties for traffic violations to impose discipline among drivers.
CTTMO head Dionsio Abude told SunStar Davao that this should be implemented by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) since they could not do anything except issue citation tickets to violators.
"Dili lang man kami ang dapat mudisiplina sa driver. Ang pinakakuyaw nga mudisiplina, ang LTO kay ang driving is privilege lang man (We should not just be the one to discipline the drivers but the LTO also. Driving is just a privilege)," Abude said.
He suggested that the LTO should revoke licenses of those who reached three suspensions for violations.
"Taasan gyud dapat ang penalty. Pareha anang P500 lang man ang obstruction himuon nato na nga P3,000 o P5,000 para magmatngon gyud. Kanus-a paman ta magsugod nga perti namang daghana sa sakyanan? (Penalties should be increased. For instance, the P500 penalty for obstruction should be P3,000 or P5,000. When are we going to start when we already have a lot vehicles in the city?)," Abude said.
Meanwhile, Abude said that driving without license should be implemented as a criminal offense.
"Criminal offense man gani ang smoking, kana na ba nga grave offense kaayo na ang mag drive ka na walay license. Supposed to be wala ka diha sa kalsada (Smoking is even a criminal offense, how much more those who drive without a driver's license. They are not supposed to be there)," he said.
