Barangay Scout Barrio declared drug-free

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) through the Regional Oversight Committee have certified Barangay Scout Barrio in Baguio City to be drug cleared as of December 17, 2018.

In a ceremony at the Scout Barrio Barangay Hall on December 27, 2018, PDEA-Cordillera regional director Edgar Apalla pointed out the importance for Scout Barrio to be a model barangay worth emulating for its quest to rid their barangay of drugs.

“Since Scout Barrio have been cleared, we now have 74 remaining in the entire Cordillera. That will be our job although we still have a lot to clear here in the city of Baguio,” Apalla said the.

The certification of the Regional Oversight Committee specified that based on Barangay Drug Clearing Program Resolution number 1 series of 2018 through the assessment and validation pertinent to their compliance with the parameters enumerated in section 8 of DDB Board regulation no.3 series of 2017, Scout Barrio passed all the requirements.

“This is a concerted effort of the barangay along with the Barangay Anti –Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) with help coming from the PNP, Pdea, and the City DILG in achieving their dreams to be drug cleared,” Apalla added.

In 2018, 23 barangays have been declared as drug cleared including Scout Barrio.

PDEA-Cordillera is currently monitoring 159 drug personalities, 61 placed on the target list while 98 are on the watch list.

In 2018, PDEA and other law enforcement units and agencies including the military have conducted 269 operations in the region which resulted to the confiscation P11.6 million worth of illegal drugs.
