Army discovers NPA hideout in Bukidnon

GOVERNMENT forces discovered an alleged abandoned hideout of the New People's Army (NPA) and an arm cache during the combat clearing operations at Barangay Lirongan, Talakag, Bukidnon last Friday, January 4.

According to information from the 65th Infantry Battalion, the hideout has an estimated area of about 20x30 meters.

While the troops thoroughly searched the area, they were able to find two M16 Rifles, one M653 Rifle, one improvised M79 grenade launcher, one caliber 45, ammunition of M203 grenade, and a rifle grenade.

Commercial radios, blasting caps, batteries for improvised explosive device (IED) and subversive documents were also recovered.

"The timely and accurate information given by concern civilians led to the recovery of said valuable war materials. The concerned civilian populace in the area disclosed the information to the Army because they can no longer bear the exploitation and troubles made by the CPP-NPA terrorist in their community that threatens their safety," the army said.

The 65IB in partnership with the local government agencies vowed to continue to perform its mandate in conducting peace and security efforts in their area of responsibility.

Lieutenant Richard Rabaca, the battalion commander said this year, they will double their efforts to go after the NPA.

"I admire the bravery of the concerned civilians who disclose the significant information to us. The peace and order situation in our community is everybodyfs concern. This year, let us double our efforts and help one another to end the exploitation and troubles made by this terrorist for us to live in a peaceful and develop communities," he added.

Less than a month ago, Army Scout Rangers also seized two alleged hideouts of the NPA in the boundaries of Agusan and Bukidnon, believed to be the venue for the 50th anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) last December 26.
