Custudio: Focus

THE Christmas holidays are over and the New Year has finally come. How are you doing so far? The last few days of 2018, I was trying to assess how the past 12 months went. Were you doing the same thing?

I honestly think that 2018 was a crazy year for me, being filled by both triumphs and challenges of similar magnitude and importance. How was it from your end?

Mine was weird to say the least, both challenging and unnerving at times, like being on a roller coaster ride that you cannot plead off of, much to my dismay. Oh well, it is all in the past now. Whatever we went through last year, we survived it. More than that, the lessons we learned from it are priceless.

Barring the usual new year’s day welcome kit of do’s, don’ts and all the pamahiin that surround the ushering in of 2019, I was actually apprehensive about ending the previous year with too many i’s undotted and t’s uncrossed. Really, I had “things” that I seriously did not want to bring with me into the New Year!

I wanted a fresh start and an even fresher, happier outlook so getting rid of all the excess baggage would be great!

In the last few hours of the old year, I was keenly trying to reflect on how I lived my life. I was trying to feel my way around it. No matter how bad things may have become, we all want to end on a good note. Did you? I sincerely hope we all did because nothing beats that feeling... that you have overcome all trials, came out in one piece, ready to take on a whole new challenging year prepared and a better person!

It is easier to take on new things when we have learned so much from the past year. The paths we want to take are clearer and we know despite the initial feelings of doubt and uncertainty, we shall walk it with more confidence and positivity.

Our past experiences have already taught us the things that matter most. We know what needs to go first and what needs to be done, don’t we? Now all we really need to do is focus.

We may feel a bit intimidated and scared but it’s all part of the process. All we need is to believe that we can do it and set our sights to achieve it. By now we already know our priorities and are fully aware that there will be sacrifices that we need to take.

We are fully aware of the challenges that may arise along the way, having the proper mindset will help us minimize distractions. Of course, we should never forget to have fun when things become tougher than usual. Taking a break is part of the process, too!

Focus on what means the most to you. Do things for yourself instead of for others. Take one step at a time and stay on the path you have chosen and one day you will realize that you have achieved what you set out to do.
