LOCAL beauty and fashion icons in Davao City revealed various styles and trends that will make waves in the city soon.

Arlyn L. Basquez, owner of a beauty academy with the same name, said beauty trend that will dominate this year is “nude” or “barely-there makeup”. Gone are the days when girls wear heavy and dark mark ups to accentuate the cheek bones; bright red for lipsticks; and smokey eyes.

“This year, it’s going to be ‘natural-look’,” Basquez said.

For hair, she said, big curls and wavy look are the in thing. Ombre and Balayage will also going to be the hair style this year with metallic and ash as the hair color. A tint of purple as highlight will also be here to stay in 2019.

“The hairstyle and hair color for this year complement the natural-look of the make-up,” the owner of a beauty and hair salon said.

Nail colors will also be the same as the make-up trend for this year. “For nails, natural and nude colors to pair with the hair and makeup will be the nail trend in 2019,” she added.

For fashion, 2019 will be a borrowed sense from the 1960s, but with a twist.

“Fun and edgy, this will be the theme of this year’s fashion sense,” home-grown couturier Bamba C. Limon said.

“This year is also a celebration of classic, revamped style,” he added.

He said we do not actually repeat fashion trend from previous years, because artists tend to merge their own concept to develop something new.

He cited women’s dresses for this year will be more of edgy, pleated and with ruffles which are a comeback from 1960s fashion, but with a twist.

“Nagabalik talaga ang fashion pero nade-define lang nila ulit, kasi nga ruffles pero iba naman ang top,” the local famous designer said.

Tie dyed will also be back this year, but redefined.

For shoes, the trend for this year will be fancy flats. “Yung parang may mga buntot-buntot,” he said

For males, however, the fashion trend will be more of edgy corners; no more rounded corners, but for the bottom, pants will be the same, regular-fit.

Short pants will no longer be knee-level. The same as with females, the trend for this year will be short shorts.

“But not the pek-pek shorts,” he added.

Bright and lively hues will also dominate the fashion colors for this year such as pink peacock, aspen gold, princess blue, mango yellow, toffee, turmeric green, and sweet lilac.
