RETIRED Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa said over the weekend that Filipino families should now participate in the reduction of supply of illegal drugs in the country.
This is because the supply is still coming in despite the relentless war on drugs by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, he said.
Dela Rosa was in La Castellana, Negros Occidental on January 5 as he was the guest speaker of the town’s annual Bailes de Luces Festival.
He said he wants the families to support the war on drugs because this is not for his personal interest but for the welfare of the Filipino people.
The problem still persists and they still have a lot of things to do to curb this menace, he added.
He said the problem of illegal drugs is very complicated despite the fact that thousands of people have died along the way, but still, the problem is there.
He said those convicted of various cases like kidnapping, murder, and others became drug lords when they were endorsed to the Bureau of Corrections.
They saw how lucrative the business on drugs and they are safe inside the jail, he added. “The return of their investment is very fast with a small capitalization,” Dela Rosa said.
"We need to concentrate on the demand reduction. If we are all closely watching our family members...the government cannot do this alone. This should be holistic and family approach," he said.
