BACOLOD City Councilor Dindo Ramos will recommend for the extension of the traffic experiment within the North and South Capitol Roads.
Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation, said he will conduct a committee conference this week to assess how effective is the traffic experiment of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO).
The one-way traffic scheme started on December 12 to 19, 2018.
The affected public utility jeepney were jeepneys with routes Bata-Libertad, Mandalagan-Libertad, Libertad-Banago, Fortune Towne-Central Market, and Homesite-Central Market.
The routes of vans bound for the South Terminal, airport, and the seaport were also affected.
“So far, we have not received any major problem from BTAO, but I will clarify with them if they will continue with the original traffic plan or modify it to suit the suggestions and comments of some motorists in that area,” Ramos said.
Ramos said he believes they have made sufficient legislation to help or minimize the traffic congestion in Bacolod.
Meanwhile, Ramos said they will wait for the recommendation of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to solve the traffic congestion in Bacolod.
“Let’s wait if this can be adopted in Bacolod and if there is a need for traffic rerouting or if we will amend the existing Comprehensive Traffic Ordinance in the city,” he said.
In December, a 15-man team of traffic management experts of the MMDA arrived in Bacolod to study the traffic situation in the city for 12 days and propose a Traffic Management Masterplan.
After the 12-day study, they will bring the data to their office in Manila for analysis and evaluation.
The analysis will take three to four months, and their evaluation shall be the basis for a Traffic Management Masterplan for Bacolod.
