FILIPINO-AMERICAN actor Darren Criss dedicated his first Golden Globe award to his mother, Cerina Bru, a Cebuana who went to the United States to chase her dreams.
“This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I am so proud to be a teeny-tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming into this country and getting to be invited to cool parties like this. Mom, I know you're watching this. I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you,” Criss said during his speech for the 2018 Golden Globe awards night.
In a series titled "The Assassination of Gianni Versace," Criss portrayed spree killer Andrew Cunanan in Ryan Murphy's second installment of American Crime Story.
Critics praised Criss for his portrayal which eventually led the actor to win a Golden Globe for best performance by an actor in a limited series or a motion picture.
Criss said he was inspired to become an actor because of his parents. He even remembers growing up to a house filled with music and dancing. By the age of 5, he already started playing the violin which was then followed by learning to play other instruments like the drums, mandolin, and cello. (RDR)
