Drivers contribute to Isabela’s economic development

DRIVERS play a big role in the economic development of Isabela in Negros Occidental, said Mayor Joselito Malabor during the annual activity organized by the government to the transport sector in the town on Sunday, January 6.

Almost 800 drivers of motorcycles, jeepney, trucks, and tricycles gathered in the activity dubbed “Mga drayber: disiplinado sa dalan, kaupod sa kauswagan.”

The Municipality Government recognized the efforts and contribution of more than 1,000 drivers in the town’s economic development. Most of them are tricycle and motorcycle drivers.

The activity which is on its second year is usually held every first Sunday of the year based on the Municipal Ordinance 2017-24 passed by the Municipal Council two years ago.

Malabor said the drivers are part of the value of chain, as they transport goods from one place to another,” stressing their important role in the society.

The mayor believed that the transport sector can easily facilitate their needs with the government if they are organized.

Malabor said the government even subsidized half of the payment of the renewal of their licenses and franchises to help them with their expenses.

He is also hoping that the government can provide them with more livelihood assistance and programs in the coming years.

He encouraged the public to continue supporting the transport sector because they are part of the growth of the town’s industry.

Meanwhile, the drivers were treated to fun and games and were given door prizes.

A brand new motorcycle was also given to one lucky raffle winner as the grand prize.

Joel Frias was also given a Certificate of Appreciation for having been recognized as an honest driver. (GYM)
