Bacolod election registrar awaits reshuffling order

BACOLOD City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said on Monday, January 7, she is waiting for the reshuffling order from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc.

Majarucon-Sia said the reshuffling order is expected to be implemented anytime this month, February, or March.

“Definitely, the election officers will have a reshuffling for the purpose of May 13 elections. Whoever will be reshuffled to Bacolod definitely, he or she is also a lawyer,” she said.

She added that Bacolod is not classified as an election hotspot so it’s not hard for the new election officer to handle the election in the city, but there will be only an adjustment to handle the total volume of registered voters and clustered precincts.

This year, Bacolod has a total of 313,308 registered voters, which increased by 15,725 compared to the previous polls with 297,583 registered voters.

In November 2018, Comelec has delisted 1,242 names from its voters' list in Bacolod.

Of the 1,242, 963 names have been removed by reason of death; 74 due to transfer to another district or municipality; and 204 due to double registration, which was determined through automated fingerprint identification system; and one double entry.

After the election period, Majarucon-Sia said the election officers will go back to their original assignment in Negros Occidental.

The election period will start from January 13 to June 12 and during this period, there will be an implementation of gun ban or prohibition on other deadly weapons.

Majarucon-Sia will also hold a meeting with Bacolod City Police Office acting director Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo on Tuesday, January 8, to discuss the unity walk or peace covenant on January 13 as well as the activation of the City Joint Security Council in the city. (MAP)
