THE Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu, in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that VIP treatment for political devotees will not be possible during the celebration of the Fiesta Señor 2019.

Rev. Fr. Aladdin Luzon, OSA, director of Cluster 4 – Safety, Security, Peace and Order, said that since the beginning of the preparation of the Fiesta Señor, they have agreed and coordinated with the PNP and other agencies that special treatment will not be given to politicians who will attend novena masses and other activities during the festivities.

“Let’s join together with the ordinary people in worshipping our Sto. Niño and let us following all the protocols and traffic plans," said Fr. Luzon.

In an instance where politicians offer donations, the church will accept it as long as it is heartily given without any political agenda.

Moreover, the Basilica elaborated that they will utilize the money for their regular feeding programs and scholarships, including the college students.

There will still be no fireworks display for this year’s celebration. The budget allocated for it will be given to areas that are in need.

Last year, the P130,000 budget for fireworks was given to three recipients, including victims of the Marawi seige, who recieved the bulk of the donation.

The novena mass for the Fiesta Señor celebration will start on Thursday, January 10, and will end on Friday, January 18.

For security reasons, those who will visit the Basilica are discouraged from wearing jewelries and bringing backpacks and other valuable items during the celebration. (Ella Brette Llego and Ivan Gregory Tan, USJ-R Interns)
