SIX people, including three high-value targets, were arrested and yielded at least P3.4 million worth of suspected “shabu” in separate drug busts in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police said Tuesday, January 8.

Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspects as Merlyn Aliasman; Joel Hernando, 31; Isa Munap, 28; Eulalio Gabales, 43; Cid Jimenez, 47; and Charles Magcanta, 26.

Licup said Aliasman, Hernando and Munap were arrested in a drug bust by joint police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives around 11:30 a.m. Monday at a pension house along Governor Camins Avenue in Canelar village, Zamboanga City.

He said confiscated from them were some P3.4 million worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) weighing 500 grams and packed in 11 heat-sealed plastic sachets, nine bundles of boodle money topped with one genuine P1,000 used as drug bust money, a paper bag, and two cellular phones.

The police official said the suspects were detained at the PDEA regional office while cases for violation of Section 5 in relation to Sections 26 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied against them.

Licup said Gabales and Jimenez yielded some P20,000 worth of suspected shabu in a drug bust around 7:20 p.m. Monday near a resort in Minaog village, Dipolog City.

Confiscated from the two were two cellular phones, P500 marked money and other illegal drug paraphernalia, he added.

He said Magcanta yielded P30,000 worth of suspected shabu when arrested by joint operatives around 5:20 p.m. Monday in Sta. Filomena village, Dipolog City. Also recovered were P500 marked money, and a cellular phone.

Licup added that Gabales, Jimenez and Magcanta were detained while formal charges are set to be filed against them. (SunStar Philippines)
