City on course for title

LAGAWE, Ifugao –- As the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) comes to its close Thursday, Baguio City continued its dominance in the annual sports meet.

The city pulls away with a total of 357 statistical points for the best chance of getting the overall crown among seven delegations.

Baguio continues its dominance in the weeklong competition after taking the overall crown in the tae kwon do in both elementary and secondary divisions while the Summer Capital’s wood pushers took the overall crown in the elementary boys and girls and secondary girls in chess.

The Baguio jins amassed 24 gold medals in the 26 events on tap for tae kwon do as it accumulated 182 and 175 points in the secondary and elementary levels, respectively, and is expected to add more points in the competition with soccer in the elementary and secondary to be played Friday.

The Baguio booters will try to win their championship after failing to secure it last year in their home turf.

Baguio’s secondary volleyball girls and secondary basketball boys will also try to clinch the championship after the basketball elementary squad disposed Apayao province in their finals match Thursday afternoon at the Don Bosco High School.   

Benguet trails Baguio in the overall standing with a total of 148 points with their secondary team taking 102 points to place second behind the city while their elementary level is fourth with 46 statistical points.

Coming in at third is Kalinga province with 109 points; its elementary squad trails Baguio by 55.5 points while the secondary level is at third after garnering 54 points.

Mt. Province is in near fourth with 100 points coming off from the elementary’s 52 points and is third in the standings while the secondary level had a pale 39 points to place fourth.

Abra province placed fifth in the overall standing with its 57 points bannered by its elementary’s 40 points which is also at fifth while the secondary level only contributed 17 points to place sixth.

Host Ifugao fell to number six after a steady third place romp in the early goings of the competition with a total of 44 points while Apayao landed to seventh with their nine points in the standings.
