AS THE city prepares for big and major events in the first six months of the year, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has challenged government workers “to do their work properly” so the city can focus on their duties.

"It will be very busy. We need all national government agencies and offices to do their work properly para ang city government maka-focus pud sa among kinahanglan buhaton (so that the city government can also focus on their duties)," Duterte-Carpio said in an interview Tuesday, January 8.

Duterte solicited the help of national government agencies since the first six months will be hectic for the upcoming activities such as the Davraa Meet 2019, Araw ng Dabaw, Alveo Ironman 70.3, Palarong Pambansa and the midterm election.

"If we see less complaints about their work then we focus more on our work," she said.

"Giingnan nako sila karon atoang mga (I told the) national government agencies and offices and next week I will also talk to the city government employees [that the] election is not an excuse for us no to do our work," she added.

The chief executive narrated an incident during her first term as mayor when a lady came to her office and reported that she was given a run-around by city hall employees.

The lady told the mayor that she went to City Hall to complain in January but was told to come back in February because the person in charge was not around.

When the lady returned in February, she was again told that her request will not be entertained because of the election ban.

She was told to come back in July of that same year.

Duterte said this incident should not be repeated.
