Police uproot 1,000 marijuana plants in Agusan Sur

POLICE have uprooted and destroyed P3.3 million worth of marijuana in Sitio Kalampayan, barangay Kasapa 2, La Paz town in Agusan del Sur on Monday.

Chief Superintendent Gilberto DC Cruz, Police Regional Office-Caraga Regional Director, disclosed that a joint task force composed of La Paz Municipal Police Station, Agusan del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company and Agusan del Sur Provincial Intelligence Branch conducted the anti-illegal drugs operation.

“We received the tip from concerned individuals that two marijuana plantations exist in the area and so we immediately launched the separate police operations,” Cruz said.

About 400 marijuana plants weighing 25 kilograms (kgs) were uprooted in Purok 4, Sitio Kalampayan, Barangay Kasapa 2, amounting to P1.4 million and another 600 marijuana plants weighing 36 kgs in Purok 6 of the said barangay worth P1.980 million.

Police identified the owners of the marijuana plantations as Rene Salintao and Bernard Sanggod who are now subject of follow-up operations.

“We give due credit to the concerned citizens who reported the information. Indeed, when the police and community work hand-in-hand in the fight against illegal drugs, our efforts yield to successful outcomes,” Cruz added.
