A PROSPEROUS year 2019 to all of us!

I am sure most of us are familiar with my title which is a moral saying about people who never seem happy with what they have and always think, feel, act that other people have a better situation than they have.

Now, here is the big question, have you ever heard people say or more importantly, have you ever found yourself saying: “would a change of residence, a change of employment or even a change of a person in my relationship make me happier?”

Many people think they would be happier if they were living someplace, working somewhere or living with someone else. ”The grass is greener on the other side.”

Sometimes due to one reason or another, it is a normal feeling we feel miserable with our family, friends or neighborhood and we want to escape them. We may say, “Everything would be so different if I just lived somewhere else.” One way or the other, we already know that some of us already made all of these enumerated changes but unfortunately, they still end up disappointed.

The truth is that changing locations usually does not change anything because the bigger problem is often within us not in the world around us.

It is always refreshing to be reminded that what is actually long lasting and powerful in life is one’s change of attitude. My experience tells me that if I change myself, then my circumstances improve. Of course, we put into consideration that there are circumstances we cannot control, thus, we have an open mind of acceptance on that aspect.

A long time ago, I have worked with a difficult boss. She rarely showed appreciation for the work I’ve done. Her favorite expression was, “Is that the best you can do.” Luckily during that hard time, I had the sense to understand that I still lacked the competence, skills and expertise to be marketable to others in the industry.

Looking back, I realized that the few years with her stretched me to finish my Doctor and Master in Management, Graduate Studies, to develop sharp and astute skills I still find useful until now. What about you? I am sure you have undertaken challenges and successfully passed them with flying colors.

Usually, success is not only what we have or what we do but what we attract because of the kind of person we have become. If we are determined to learn, no one can stop us. But if we are not willing to learn, no one can help us.

Thus, when we embark on a journey of learning, hopefully, we can change the way we look at life in a mature way and collaborate with others to become more and more responsible people as years come and go.
