Forum tackles how to end child marriage, violence towards women

A CIVIC group and an academic institution in Cebu City have gathered to protest against child marriage and violence towards women.

The Zonta Club Cebu 1 and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) organized a symposium that was attended by about 5,000 students, teachers, Zontians and guests last Dec. 10 to mark the end of the “16 Days of Activism.”

USJ-R president Fr. Cristopher Maspara, OAR, Zonta District 17 Area 3 director Stella Bernabe and Zonta Club Cebu 1 president Minnie Yuvienco led the activity.

The program started with the showing of video clips on child marriage. An open forum followed afterwards.

The message of the need for education and parental guidance on love, courtship and marriage gained a positive response from the audience.

USJ-R students were invited to the event as it aims to develop their leadership skills and empower them to lead the youth. The activity resulted in the creation of the Z Club in USJ-R High School.
