WITH the May 2010 elections only a few months away, police force is all set to secure the region during the campaign period and on the Election Day, a top police official said.

Philippine National Police-Cordillera Administrative Region (PNP-CAR) Director Orlando Pestaño said the PNP has secured additional equipment like patrol cars, guns, ammunitions and personnel to meet the security demand for the region.

“The police force is very much ready for the elections, we have all the supporting elements,” Pestano said.

He said 900 additional policemen are to be detained in Abra while 78 have already been assigned to the province to augment the 41st infantry Division.

Meanwhile, Pestano disclosed that they have identified four private armies in Abra. He also reported 29 gun ban violations cases since January 10, eight of these were in Abra while six were arrested in Baguio City. (Visha Calventas)
