Congress to canvass votes for top two national seats

THE Congress will do the canvassing of votes for the top two positions of the National Government, a regional top official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

Comelec Regional Director Julius Torres disclosed that the canvassing of votes for president and vice president will be done by Congress.

“The Congress will provide its own rules and procedures on the consolidation and canvassing of the top two positions,” Torres said.

He also clarified the Comelec will only automate the counting process and not the administrative matters.

The precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines will count the votes and the result will be forwarded to the municipal level for canvassing and consolidating. Torres disclosed that 1,788 PCOS machines are set to be delivered to the region.

He also noted that the election officers are set to have a training on February 9 to 26.
