Mambukal Hotel 'did not collapse'

A PORTION of the Mambukal Convention Hotel in Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental did not collapse as reported on Wednesday, January 9.

The damage was caused by a branch of the tree that hit its parapet and its roofing, measuring about 70 to 80 square meters.

This was the account of a guest who saw the incident when it happened early Tuesday, January 8.

No one was hurt.

The said damage did not affect the structural design of the hotel as it is located at the back of the building.

The whole area of the building is 3,300 square meters.

Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he went to the Provincial Government-owned tourism facility in Barangay Minoyan to see for himself the damage.

The vice governor said the area has already been cleared but was told by workers at the site that the roof of the kitchen was damaged after the portion of the parapet of the building fell on it.

“I hope it is only the kitchen area has a defect,” he said.

Lacson also suggested that a third party, like the local architect's group, can inspect the damage as well as the structural integrity of the building.

Mambukal is one of the major income earners of the Provincial Government, he said.

He added the construction of the facility is almost complete already although it was not yet turned over to the Capitol as additional works are still ongoing.

The convention and hotel facility will have 48 rooms and three function halls amounting to P84 million.

Lacson also called on Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa to inform the public what happened and submit a copy of his report to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and to the Provincial Board.
