PNP official charged for hitting men's hands

A POLICE official from the Manila Police District was charged criminally and administratively for allegedly hitting the hands of three policemen with a piece of wood on Wednesday, January 9.

Three policemen filed charges of conduct unbecoming of an officer, grave abuse of authority and violation of the anti-hazing law against Chief Inspector Alden Panganiban, deputy commander of Gandara Police Community Precinct in Binondo.

According to the complainants, while the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene was ongoing, Panganiban summoned them and brought them to a construction site on Escolta street.

Panganiban allegedly asked them to show their hands and then hit these with a piece of lumber several times. The police officers said they sustained contusions from the beating.

The policemen said Panganiban told them that it was punishment for not following his instructions.

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde said they will look into the matter and find out the reason for the official's actions. (SunStar Philippines)
