Oro bags silver award for campaign against illegal drugs

CAGAYAN de Oro has bagged another award for its outstanding campaign against illegal drugs.

In his special report, Councilor Romeo Calizo said before 2019 started, the city garnered a Silver Award from the 1st National Anti-Drug Abuse Performance Award conferred by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“As one of the supporters of the administration in the campaign against illegal drugs, CADAC has gained the Silver Award for 2018 National ADAC Performance Award. Having a score of 85-99 percent, it has achieved the adjectival rating of the ideal functionality based on the 2017 performance audit,” Calizo said.

Calizo, chairman of the City Anti Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), attributed the achievement to the reduced supply and demand of the illegal drugs, by following a system which includes: Reduction, Intervention, Prevention and Community Support.

“Reduction, so we imply enforcement by PDEA, police and with the employment of the military intelligence and barangay tanods. Intervention, with the health of our families because drugs is basically a health problem but has become a social problem where drug-related crimes occur out of it. Then we have prevention, we teamed up with the education family and religious group to prevent the youth especially the minors from getting afflicted with the health menace. The last one is community support where we are undertaking the community-based rehab programs,” he added.

The award was given last December 29, 2018.

The DILG conferred the 1st National ADAC Performance Awards to 241 outstanding LGUs with exemplary efforts, through their ADACs, in complementing the national government’s measures to eradicate the country’s illegal drugs problem.

The audit criteria for the selection of awardees are organized local ADAC, implementation of ADAC plans and programs, fund allocation, support to ADACs in component LGUs, and conduct of quarterly meetings.
