EVEN Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano turned edgy on the feat of his beloved hometown Tagoloan at the culmination Thursday, January 10, of the 2018-2019 Kuyamis hoopfest at the Capitol ground here.
And why not?
The Tagoloan dribblers who made it to two of the three contested basketball finals got bludgeoned by Alubijid in the 18-under championship, even as Talisayan triumphed against Villanueva to pocket the 14-under title.
This eventually left the Tagoloan's 25-under squad trying to save the best for last as it battled the Opol Dolphins with no less than Gov. Emano watching the game from underneath the court.
"Lingaw pud ko dire nagtan-aw kay naay mga potential like ining dako (Sevilla) nga mora'g si Chinglai adtong bata ug niwang pa," the youthful Emano told this writer, referring to Philhealth cager Michael Casiño, a former La Salle standout in Manila's UAAP Games who was apparently slowed down by irregular heart condition.
The good news, however, for Emano and the rest of Tagoloan fans was: the heftier Tarantulas mentored by Jong Valdehueza were leading by as much as 7 points at the outset of the third quarter as of this writing.
"Balo kita nga sa basketball basta dili pa mahuman di gyod masiguro. So, kulbaan pa gyod kana si Gov kay naa pay fourth quarter," said PB member Gerardo “Buboy” Sabal in half jest.
Meanwhile, ongoing volleyball finals in the anually-held Kuyamis sportsfest pit Alubijid vs Magsaysay (18U), Sugbongcogon vs Magsaysay (LGU), Initao vs Tagoloan (Women’s Open) and Initao vs Tagoloan (Men’s Open).
