A SUSPECTED leader of a gun-for-hire ring in Abra and his cohort was arrested January 9, according to the Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO-COR).
Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana, PRO-COR regional director identified the suspects as Jeremy Navarette Pinera and Oliver Virgo Sotelo, who were both arrested in Barangay Arab, Pidigan, Abra at 6:45 a.m. of January 9.
The two were also identified by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to be members of the Jeremy Group, led by Pinera, that is engaged in gun-for-hire and gun running activities in Abra and adjacent provinces.
Confiscated from their possession are one hand grenade, one caliber .22 revolver without serial number, one Smith & Wesson Caliber .38 revolver without serial number, eight ammunition for caliber .22 revolver, one ammunition for caliber .38 revolver, 17 empty shells for caliber .45 pistol, five empty shells for caliber 5.56 rifle (M-16) and one improvised caliber 5.56 MM pistol.
Arrested suspects are now facing charges for illegal possession of explosives and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition respectively.
Nana meanwhile applauded the personnel for arrest of the suspects.
“These accomplishment speak well of our dedication to ensure a safe election in the upcoming 2019 midterm elections,” Nana said.
Nana assured PRO-COR will continue its operation against gun-for-hire groups until they are all neutralized.
