Philharmonic Orchestra to hold free 2-day outreach concert in Bacolod

THE Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), the country’s leading symphony orchestra and a resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is staging a free two-day Outreach Concert on January 31 and February 1.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who initiated the project, said the PPO will hold a concert at the SMX Convention Center Bacolod on January 31 that will be “by invitation” only.

The next day, February 1, it will be an open-air concert at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

“Bacolod has to grow in all aspects, including culture. We are inviting the barangays to watch this concert,” Leonardia said.

Councilor Em Ang, project manager of the concert, said they started meeting with CCP president Arsenio Lizaso and other CCP officials since last year, to make sure that the Bacolod concert is included in the 2019 concert calendar of the PPO.

Ang said the two-night concert is part of the PPO’s outreach program which aims to “promote music appreciation in underserved communities in the different regions in the country.”

“The 80-man PPO is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia Pacific region, and we are fortunate that it has chosen Bacolod to promote their music,” Ang added.

“It will boost our efforts to revive our people’s interest in the performing arts,” she stressed.

Ang said they have invited civic and business leaders, government officials and employees, DepEd officials, and performing arts enthusiasts to watch the concert. (PR)
