SEVERAL Individuals and institutions who made big contributions to the Sinulog celebration through the years were recognized by the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and the Cebu City Government during the grand launching Friday, Jan. 11.

Msgr. Achilles Dakay was recognized for celebrating the first mass since the Sinulog parade began in 1980, while David Odilao was also recognized for being the first chairman of the SFI executive committee.

SFI and the City also recognized Dolores Suzara for being the first and longest serving staff member of the foundation, and Catherine Vestil for being among the first Sinulog dancers.

Before the grand launch at the Cebu City Sports Center, a mass officiated by Msgr. Roberto Alesna was held at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño followed by a parade.

City Councilor Dave Tumulak, who also serves as chairman of the executive committee of SFI, said the launch served as a dry run, allowing organizers to see how they can operate if the plan to shut down the network signals pushes through.

“We were able to go ahead with the program, even without using mobile phones,” he said. (RVC)
