DepEd thanks Duterte for support to basic education sector

BULAKAN, Bulacan -- The Department of Education (DepEd) thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for his support and inspiration to the basic education sector.

“We don’t only need universities and colleges, but we also need strong and established basic education facilities more importantly school buildings, computers and other equipment. And for that, we thank you for your support and for giving inspiration,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones told President Duterte during Thursday’s groundbreaking of school buildings of General Gregorio del Pilar National High School and the presentation of miniature school building plan of Pandi National High School.

“We chose Bulacan for the construction of these school buildings for its significant contribution in the history and culture of our country and these must be instilled to our students and learners,” she added.

“We will not just establish school buildings but we will also review the curriculum to supplement it with the life and works of our local heroes such as Gregorio del Pilar,” Briones added.

General Gregorio del Pilar National High School was established to decongest nearby secondary schools of overpopulation.

Two units of 4-storey, 24-classroom, and 1 unit of 4-storey, 12-classroom buildings have already been included in the priority list of DepED under Calendar Year (CY) 2018 Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) with a total contract amounting to P156,429,013.24.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is the implementing agency of the project. It is expected be completed in November 2019.

Meanwhile, the establishment of Pandi National High School seeks to decongest Virginia Ramirez-Cruz High School of excessive enrolment.

The 19,296 square meter lot purchased by DepED will be used for the new secondary school. Four units of 4-storey, 20-classroom building has already been included in the priority list of DepED under calendar year 2018 BEFF with a total contract amounting to P190,980,826.87.
