Images and devotion

BESIDES celebrating the New Year, Cebu City celebrates another thing every January—the most awaited festival celebrated by locals and tourists, the Sinulog festival.

Ayala Center Cebu joined the festivities by presenting its annual exhibit of Sto. Niño images. The launch took place last Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Level 1, near Oh Georg!

Curated by Lourdes Jereza, the exhibit is now on its 18th year and organized in partnership with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation together with the devotees of Sto. Niño. More than 50 images in various sizes and presentations of the Child Jesus are on display and adorned in a garden-like fashion.

During the launch, Ayala Center Cebu’s general manager Bong Dy shared during her speech that this exhibit is a way of giving a warm Cebuano welcome to its guests.

The exhibit bears the theme “Celebrate Sinulog with Sto. Niño for Year of the Youth” in line with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ nationwide celebration of the Year of the Youth. Through this exhibit, it is CBCP’s hope to educate the people, especially the young ones, of Cebu’s rich devotion.

The Sto. Niño exhibit will run until Jan. 20. A novena mass which began on Jan. 10 will be held at the Level 4 chapel until Jan. 18 every 6 p.m. to mark the occasion.
