Sorongon tops UV run

ONE of Cebu’s top long distance runners Ruffa Sorongon asserted her dominance in the University of the Visayas (UV) Centennial Run, winning the women’s 10-kilometer title at the school’s main campus along Colon St. on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Sorongon, a native of Sultan Kudarat, completed the race course in 44 minutes and 16 seconds to beat Jeneicel Saballa (47:06) and Princess Jive Borneo (53:41.)

The Kenyan runners, meanwhile, showed their force in the 10K race with a 1-2 finish by Elliud Kiring and Eric Chipsiror with times of 33:14 and 33:36, respectively. Azlan Pagay settled for third place in 39:22.

In the 5K race, Ariel Saballa topped the men’s race in 17:26, edging out Florendo Lapiz (17:29) and Ruel Algufera (17:31.)

Melody Perez ruled the women’s race in 21:36, posting a three-minute margin over runners-up Jeneda Arquino and Azalea de Jesus. RSC
