Tell it to SunStar: Lack of discipline breeds corruption

PEOPLE are corrupt because there is no discipline in the Philippines. There are two sets of laws here, one for the poor and another for the rich. The poor, with no money to buy their way out, are thrown in jail and need to prove themselves innocent. For the rich there is bail and the court must prove them guilty beyond any doubt so they can be thrown into the jail. .

In any case, people can only be disciplined if their pockets are hurt or if they are already disciplined at home. We are now number one in Asia for being the most corrupt country, according to Time magazine.

We Filipinos are supposed to be the most prideful people, but what happened? Are we so blinded by the idea of getting rich that we have to cast aside our pride just to be able to acquire riches and showcase ourselves?

In the government, contracts on road projects are usually tainted with corruption and lack of discipline in implementation. Roads lack quality and contracts are not followed to the letter so that construction is not completed on time--and no action is being taken by concerned officials.

I am sure there are specs for every project but there is no quality control or inspection, thus the poor quality of our roads and drainage.

Wake up fellow Filipinos and say something or you will just be as guilty for condoning corruption.--Freddie Acopan
