Caberte: Younger entrepreneurs on the rise

WITH tech-savvy millenials on the rise, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7 has seen an increase in the pool of young entrepreneurs.

DTI 7 Director Asteria Caberte said more young entrepreneurs are interested in digitalizing their businesses.

“Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are increasing because there are a lot of millenials that are easily inspired to start their own business,” she said.

With just a little push, these entrepreneurs can already harvest the results of their business ventures through the help of the agency.

“We’re training them in e-commerce and marketing, and also, on how to develop websites,” she said.

Millenials have an advantage when it comes to digitalization, Caberte said, because they were integrated into technology, unlike the other generations.

“Most of them have an online presence already and are into online marketing,” she said.

She said that for this year, they will fully implement their efforts to put brick and mortar businesses in the web.

“They have to go digital so they can sell. We will also provide a platform where they are visible online and they can sell their products for free,” she said.

Caberte said that it will be DTI-7’s top priority to take advantage of the growing consciousness of having businesses online to propel the local economy.

“It’s number one on the agenda. They have to have a different level of marketing because that’s the way to go,” she said.

Based on the DTI’s records, there were 53,218 registered MSMEs in Central Visayas in 2016.

Caberte said they are strengthening their campaigns and entrepreneurial development programs to improve the growth rate of MSMEs in the region.

“The extent of our reach to these MSMEs is wider and strong now because we have more people and more presence through our massive trainings,” she said. (JOB)
