Unity walk held to ensure secure, fair polls

TO ENSURE fair national and local elections this coming May 2019, a “Unity Walk, Interfaith Rally, and Peace Covenant Signing” was held Sunday to kick off the election period.

The activity was attended by various stakeholders including government agencies, law enforcement agencies, tribal leaders, some running candidates, religious groups, and non-government organizations. They marched down from Roxas Avenue going to Rizal Park where the proper program was staged.

In his message, Police Regional Office Davao (PRO) 11 Director Marcelo Morales thanked the participants for attending the activity.

“Your participation is very crucial for the success of this poll. We should all maintain our integrity and trust worthiness as well as to maintain the credibility of the result of election and always be on guard,” Morales said.

Candidates also signed the peace covenant as a commitment to adhere to a safe and honest election this year.

With the election period, Morales, moreover, vowed that policemen will be on high alert to maintain the peace and avoid election-related incidents from occurring.

“Despite our differences on religious affiliation and choices of candidates, we should all be united to make this coming 2019 election secure and fair. This is one activity where we all want to be of service to our people by making sure that their votes are secured,” he added.

During the program, they released white doves that signify unity to have an “orderly, honest, peaceful and credible 2019 national and local elections.”
