Busy February for Region 7 athletes

A BUSY first quarter awaits Cebu’s student-athletes as the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) meet and the Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg is all set on the horizon.

The Cviraa meet will kick things off in February in Dumaguete City as the athletes from different divisions of Central Visayas compete for the right to represent Region 7 in the Palarong Pambansa, which is set in Davao City this summer.

The Cebu City Niños remain the title favorite, having won the overall title for 26 years, while the divisions of Cebu Province, Bohol Province and Dumaguete are among the strong contenders after showing significant improvement in the past years.

The regular sports to be contested are archery, athletics, arnis, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiards, boxing, chess, football, futsal, gymnastics, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis, volleyball, wrestling and wushu.

After the Cviraa, athletes will be preparing for the Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg on Feb. 23 to March 2 in Iloilo City. The event is a grassroots sports program conducted by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) with the winners going to play in the national finals. (RSC)
