Tell it to SunStar: Del Mar bill on ‘habal-habal’ opposed

EVER since I became an adult, I have always been pro-poor. When I was working in a bank, I always made sure to reach to the poor during Christmas by feeding them in our sitio.

But even if it hurts me, I am opposing House Bill 6909 filed by Rep. Raul del Mar that allows motorcyles-for-hire to operate in our city’s streets.

Motorcycle drivers have very bad habits. They overtake without taking any precautions. My worst experience was when I was making a right turn in a very narrow street and a habal-habal driver overtook my vehicle at the right side causing him to fall and denting the right side of my six-month old car.

I could only thank God that he did not die and I had a comprehensive accident insurance policy for my car. One thing I can say is that our motorcycle drivers know how to operate their motorycles but they do not know how to drive.

May the proposed law be scuttled before it reaches the Senate. (Monita Lopez, Lapu-Lapu City)
