1 dead, 8 injured in Baguio road mishap

A WOMAN died while seven passengers were injured in a road crash in Barangay Tabio in Mankayan, Benguet on January 13.

Aida Balanban Paldingan, 50, was declared dead on arrival by attending physician at 7:24 a.m. after a passenger van driven by Romy Dulaypan Dawig, 28, while those hurt were identified as Constancia Paldingan Segundo, 51; Jeana Dawig Segundo 25; and three minors ages 6, 4 and 2, all from Tabio, Mankayan; and Marilyn Dulaypan Dawig, 34 from Quirino, Ilocos Sur.

Initial police investigation revealed the driver and the victims were going to Quirino, Ilocos Sur when the vehicle suffered mechanical defect before falling into a 50-meter ravine.

Personnel of Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, local government unit, barangay officials and concerned citizens rescued the eight passengers and were brought to the nearest infirmary clinic in Mankayan.

The seven victims were then brought to Luis Hora Hospital in Bauko, Mt. Province and a nearby infirmary clinic.

Another vehicular accident occurred in Km. 34, Topdac, Atok in Benguet after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Julie Baliaga Estoro, 38, a teacher in La Trinidad who was going towards Bontoc, Mt. Province collided with a truck driven by Jester Nagayos, and a resident of Tabbacan, Abatan, in Buguias town.

Investigation showed the SUV lost control and collided with the approaching truck going to the direction of Baguio City.

A 14–year-old passenger of the SUV was hurt due to the impact and was brought to the Atok District Hospital for medical attention and was referred at the Pines City Doctors Hospital for CT scan.
