2 firms eyeing parking facilities

DAVAO City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) officer-in-charge Lemuel Ontorio said they have two interested firms that have shown interest in putting up a parking facility in the city this year.

“Naghatag nami og mga letter sa different property owners. We are still yet to receive ang ilahang mga responses og mga feedback. However, naa na tay two intents already na magput-up sila ug parking facility (We already gave letters to different property owners. We are still yet to receive their responses and feedback. However, two already expressed their interest to put up parking facilties),” Ortonio said, adding these parking facilities will hopefully address the city’s traffic woes.

Ortonio also said the city’s progress is rapidly changing the city landscape, thus, resulting to higher influx of people. With this, the investment promotion officer said the city must also be adept in making innovative solutions to address congestion, thus the parking facility is a good plan.

“According sa plan, ginatan-aw namo to have these facilities sa may north part sa city, tapos ang usa sa downtown area (According to the plan, we are looking at having these facilities in the northern part of the city and the other in the downtown area),” Ortonio said.

“Sa pagkaroon dili pa nako ma-divulge ang further details until mahuman nila ang ilang plan, and officially pass their application sa amoa (For now I cannot divulge further details until they finish their plan and officially pass their application to us),” Ortonio added.

Last January 2018, the 18th Davao City Council approved the ordinance giving special incentive package to owners and developers who will turn their properties as parking spaces for public use.

With the ordinance, the city will give a two-year exemption for the payment of real property tax (RPT) for all the qualified land to be used and converted into parking space. The city will also give an exemption for five years from RPT for the building should the real property owner develop or construct parking building. (GAD)
