‘Discover Hinoba-an’ launched

A NEW tourism promotion called “Discover Hinoba-an” was launched on Monday, January 14, by the municipal government of Hinoba-an along with the commemoration of the historic Villamor Landing at the town's Pagbana-ag Peoples' Activity Center.

Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao and other municipal officials led the activity on Monday.

Estrao said that the town's new tourism promotion is aimed at enticing tourists to discover and highlight the tourism potential of the town especially their beaches and caves coupled by the development of their tourism infrastructures and the development of the town's economic zone.

He said the Municipal Council has recently approved an ordinance declaring an area of 1,000 hectares in Barangay Damutan as wilderness and protected area to preserve the natural resources left in the area and another 309 hectares as wild sanctuary of bats.

Giant ferns can also be found in the town, the mayor said.

During the program, the history that tells the arrival of General Jesus Villamor was re-enacted after local historian Modesto Sa-onoy narrated the significance of Villamor's Landing in Obong Point on January 14, 1943 that signaled the return of General Douglas MacArthur in the country.

The ceremonial unveiling of the Villamor marker was also held. (TDE)
