4 schools to accommodate out-of-town contingents

FOUR schools in Cebu City are now preparing to accommodate the contingents who will join the Sinulog grand parade on Sunday, January 20.

Out-of-town contingents, including those from neighboring towns and cities in the province will be staying in four schools identified as the billeting areas.

These schools include Labangon Elementary School, Abellana National School, Regino Mercado Elementary School and Cebu City Central School.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, who also chairs the executive committee of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. inspected the schools Tuesday, January 15 to make sure everything is ready.

“The City Government is making sure that we can address all they need including clean water, an area which is free from dengue-carrying mosquitoes, their security and safety,” he said.

Personnel from City Health Department also conducted misting operations in four schools.

Tumulak also urged the community near the schools to help secure the visitors even if several police personnel and barangay tanods are already securing them.

In Regino Mercado Elementary School, Marianilva Hermosa, school principal said that they already prepared the classrooms, where the dancers and other members of the contingents will be staying.

Hermosa requested additional portable toilets and bathing facility as contingent from Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte is expected to arrive Thursday, January 17.

The school will also accommodate the contingent from Talisay City Division.

Since classes will be disrupted on Friday, Hermosa said they already allocated six Saturdays for make up class.

Other contingents like those from Consolacion, Cebu, and those from the Province of North Cotabato, from Murcia, Negros Occidental and Placer, Surigao del Norte will be billeted at the Abellana National School.

Contingents from Carcar City and Ginatilan will stay at the Labangon Elementary School, while contingents from Bogo City and Daanbantayan will stay in Cebu City Central School.
