Daraga mayor charged before Ombudsman

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has charged Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo before the Office of the Ombudsman for his alleged involvement in the killing of Ako Bicol party list representative Rodel Batocabe.

Chief Superintendent Amador Corpuz, CIDG director, said on Tuesday, January 15, that charges of conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service, and graft and corruption were filed against Baldo before the Ombudsman on January 11, Friday.

Batocabe was shot dead on December 22, 2018 in Daraga, Albay. His security aide, Senior Police Officer 2 Orlando Diaz, was also killed in the same shooting incident.

The six suspects identified as Christopher Naval, Henry Yuson, Jaywin Babor, Emmanuel Rosello, Daniel Muella and Rolando Arimado all surrendered to the police and implicated Baldo as the mastermind behind the killing.

Naval said he formed the hit team, with Yuson and Arimado as gunmen, Rosello and Babor as the drivers of the getaway motorcycles, and Muella as a lookout.

All six were charged with double murder and multiple attempted murder after several civilians were injured in the incident.

The CIDG earlier said all six accused were all employed as confidential staff of the Office of the Municipal Mayor of Daraga, Albay, receiving a monthly compensation of P7,000. This was the basis of the graft and corruption charges filed against Baldo.

Baldo earlier denied involvement in Batocabe’s assassination. (SunStar Philippines)
