Iloilo City crime volume drops 17.5%

THE Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) recorded 17.5 percent decrease in crime volume in the metropolis during the period of January 4 to 10 this year compared to same period last year.

There were 19 non-index crimes and 14 index crimes this year compared to 31 non-index crimes and nine index crimes during the same period last year.

“The ICPO is doing its best to prevent crimes. We are conducting an enhanced managing police operation weekly wherein we monitor the occurrence of crimes. Each station presents data for us to identify the crimes, after which we direct the station commanders to implement measures and strategies,” ICPO deputy director for Operations Superintendent Rogen Morales said.

ICPO conducted five drug busts which resulted to confiscation of 36 sachets of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride), three firearms, and three explosives, 30 checkpoints and 47 saturation drives, and arrested five wanted persons.

Morales also said ICPO will coordinate with Public Safety and Traffic Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu in order to minimize traffic incidents.

“Traffic incident is also our focus this year, we will coordinate with PSTMO and identify measures to implement in order to address traffic incidents which result to property damage and physical injury,” Morales added. (PR)
