PH flag to be presented on teachers’ burial proposed

AN ORDINANCE awarding the Philippine National Flag at the funeral of a public school teacher, whether retired or still in service is being pushed in the municipality of Itogon, Benguet.

“There is a need to enact the ordinance to give honor to the deceased who have rendered distinguished service to his country,” said Councilor Jodea Acay-Camuyot, author of the ordinance, adding that public school teachers are one of the most hardworking public servants who contribute selflessly to the education and rearing of our children.

The Municipal Council of Itogon will determine who among the civilians presented with Philippine National Flag during their wake as tribute to their service.

Under the ordinance, deceased public school teachers, including child development workers’ who are residents of the town can be given the flag.

Only one flag will be issued and be of standard size and should be made of cotton.

The flag, with the white triangle be placed at the head and the blue portion cover the right side of the casket and should not be lowered to the grave or allowed to touch the ground. It should be folded solemnly and handed over to the heirs of the deceased.

The flag may be presented at the wake or handed over to the next of kin of the deceased at the funeral by municipal officials headed by the municipal mayor, or in his absence the vice mayor and the council.

An initial amount of P100,000 is allocated for the proposed measure approved by municipal mayor on January 3 and was forwarded to the Benguet Provincial Board on for their approval.
