CITY of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago reminded the public to pay their taxes correctly and on time after he secured his community tax certificate or cedula from the City Treasurer’s Office on Monday, January 14, at the city hall.

The mayor said, “Start the year right by paying your taxes correctly and on time,” urging taxpayers to file and pay their tax dues as soon as possible to avail of discounts and avoid glitches in the system.

“As we all know, tax is the lifeblood of the government. Without it, it is difficult for any state to function. Here in the city, we make sure that the revenues we collect are spent wisely and judiciously in sustaining the different projects and programs that truly benefit our beloved citizens,” Santiago said.

Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, Councilor Nelson Lingat, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Gustav John Henson, City Administrator Engr. Fernando Limbitco, and some department heads and employees, also secured their cedulas, whose deadline is on the last day of February of every year.

Taxes that are due this January are tax on delivery trucks on or before January 20; permit fee on service motor vehicles on or before January 31; and professional tax receipt or PTR on or before January 31.

Both business and franchise taxes must be paid on the first 20 days of January or in quarterly installments within the first 20 days of January, April, July, and October of each year.

Occupation or calling fee is due within the 20 days of January and every quarter thereafter before a person can engage in the pursuit of his occupation or calling.

The annual payment for real property tax (RPT) or “amilyar” is on or before March 31, which can be paid on quarterly installment on or before March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31.

A 20-percent discount is given to those who will pay their RPTs for the year 2020 from January until November 30, 2019.

Other tax deadlines that the public should be mindful of are the property transfer tax which is covered within 60 days from date of execution of the deed or property owner's death; amusement tax on the 20th day of the month following the month it is due; and market stall rental which is within the first 20 days of each month.
