Vigil for NPC admin secretary set on January 16

A MASS and necrological service will be held at the Negros Press Club (NPC) office for its administrative secretary Ma. Salome “Mae” Marañon at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 16.

Marañon succumbed to heart failure on January 9. She was 64.

Her remains will be brought to the NPC office at 3 p.m. from the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel.

Her internment is scheduled at 8 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, at the Burgos Public Cemetery.

In a meeting held on Monday, January 14, the NPC officers led by Renato Duran passed a resolution recognizing the dedicated and unfailing service rendered by Marañon to the NPC.

It stated that Marañon has been serving the NPC for decades as its administrative secretary and her contribution to the growth and the welfare of the club is immeasurable.

The resolution also stated that Marañon has been an integral part of every activity of the club with her mastery of the process that made things easier for whoever are sitting as officers of the club.

It added that Mae -- as she was fondly called by NPC officers, members, and past presidents -- has been regarded with respect and fondness by members, officers, and past presidents of the club as she has extended everyone with dedicated service as administrative secretary.

It also said that Marañon’s untimely demise is a great loss to the club and her contribution and service is recognized and will forever be etched in the history of the NPC, the oldest press club in the country.

Duran is enjoining NPC officers, members, past presidents to attend the mass and necrological service for Marañon.

He also said that in a separate resolution, the NPC officers also moved for the postponement of the annual general assembly and election of officers from January 19 to January 26.

He explained that NPC is still in the period of grief for the loss of Marañon and is attending, together with the family, her wake and burial.
