YOUTH leaders and volunteers in every barangay in Davao City will be tapped to be reproductive health educators.

Davao City Councilor and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) President Jafaar Marohomsalic, during the Pulong-pulong ni Pulong (PPP) media forum Tuesday, January 15, said the youth leaders and volunteers will address reproductive health concerns in the city and each barangay will have youth educators assigned.

“The SK Pederasyon believes that the youth will serve as effective reproductive health educators,” Marohomsalic said.

“Being one of the vulnerable sectors of the population affected by issues on reproductive health, the youth will have a deeper understanding of these issues if communicated to them in a language that they speak, coming from an educator that they can personally identify with,” he added.

During the event, Marohomsalic said they wanted to address issues and concerns affecting the youth, such as teenage pregnancy.

City Health Office (CHO) head Doctor Josephine Villafuerte said in a text message to Sunstar Davao Wednesday, January 16, that there will be trainings for the Reproductive Health Educators Youth volunteers (Ready) to be scheduled once the meeting is made.

Marohomsalic said that SK councilors whose committee focuses on health and other interested volunteers are also welcomed.

“Proper communication is crucial in conveying reproductive health issues to the public, especially to the youths,” he said.

Ready is a program of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) in coordination with CHO. LYDC is composed of representatives from different youth serving organizations.
