Eco-stations along Sinulog grand parade route set

THE Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 and the Cebu City government will place 50 eco-stations along the Sinulog grand parade route.

EMB-7 is observing this month the National Zero Waste Month Celebration, which carries the theme, “We and Alternative Technologies Partnering for Proper Waste Management.”

An eco-station is where the revelers can throw their garbage in proper trash bins.

The personnel of EMB-7 will be deployed to the eco-stations on Saturday, Jan. 19, and Sunday, Jan. 20. They will remind the revelers to throw their thrash properly.

EMB-7 and Cebu City Government also partnered with Guun Corporation, a plastic recycling company, to collect waste materials.

The declaration of the National Zero Waste Month is based on Proclamation No. 760, in relation to Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

"We know it is very difficult to have a hundred-percent pollution-free Sinulog celebration, but, at least, we can reduce the garbage that might be generated," EMB-7 regional director William Cuñado said. (From HBL of Superbalita Cebu/KAL)
